Yard Sales!!!!!!

So after I taught my preschool art class, I decided to check out this estate sale I saw posted on Craigslist. It was a bit of a flop...the ad listed said there were TONS of vintage linens and other items. I only came after an hour of it being open and there wasn't much to pick from. I did find three items that I fell in love with. There was this stainless steel collapsible cup that was beautiful, but I didn't get it because I don't really have much of a use for it. So here's what I got for $2.00:

I loved the colors on this little hook. I am not sure what I am going to do with it yet, but I know it will find a place soon!!

The pattern I got in the mail today from one of the auctions I won on! I can't wait to make the heart shaped apron! The baby sign is an old ad from Gerber and the one with the skunks is a vintage birthday card for a sister. The card has silver glitter and awesome graphics.

I went to about ten different yard sales today and I have to say I am very pleased with my bargains! Here is the rest of the stuff I got:

Sterling Silver Bowl 50 cents
Before and After

I cleaned it with a home remedy that I have found works really well. Here's how to do it:
Place tin foil or use a foil pan (I do that and it works great for me) and place silver items in boiling water. Add baking soda and let soak for a few minutes. Remove and wipe clean!

I am still going to polish the bowl once my silver polish comes in the mail. I also wanted to add that the bowl had a label still attached to the bottom and is engraved with a serial number and the maker's name: REED & BARTON. I don't know much about silver dishes so if anyone has any information on it, I'd be glad to know more!! :)

Everything I got today at a yard sale except for the milk bottle. I got that at one of my favorite antique stores in Royal Oak. I love this milk bottle; it came from Detroit, MI and has a nice pattern on it - both with the graphics and the raised wavy lines. The jar in the back with the green lid I got for $2.00 and was so happy that it cleaned up so nice. I am planning on putting it in my kitchen someday to use as a cookie jar. The sherbet cups I got for a steal at 5 cents each!!!! I am thinking they are Depression Glass yet I haven't found the pattern yet in my books. Regardless, I know they are old because the lady running the sale said they were her mothers.

Today was successful!! I got all my items for a grand total of.... $4.60!! (That doesn't include the vintage pattern and the milk bottle). :)

I have been meaning to post all my other goodies that I got earlier in the week, but I have been so busy with school and nanny-ing. Earlier in the week, Adam and I went out driving and we past by an antique store that I had never seen before. Adam was a good boyfriend and let me stop in. He even came in with me. Going antique shopping is not really his thing. I spent a good five minutes looking around and didn't see much that sparked my interest. I didn't leave empty handed though!! I got a vintage tea towl for only $1.00.

Here it is folded in half. Both halves have the same pattern.

On the way home, we stopped by my "number one" favorite antique store. I wanted to inquire about any booth openings. There were two: a small one and a larger one. I was really thinking about getting the smaller one but backed out. I might go back later this month and see if it is still available. I still don't know if I want to do it or not. I think it would be so much fun going out to buy the stuff to fill it with and decorate it!! Anyways, while I was there I looked around, of course!! I walked out with these two tumblers for $1.50 each. They sorta matched the bottle (which was only $1.00!!!) I got there a few weeks prior. There are some taller glasses that I wanted, but I am waiting. I noticed that the lady has been marking everything down, so I am waiting till they are a little cheaper! The green bud vase is from my Grandma. My mom and I were over there the other day and she didn't want it anymore, so I gladly took it!!

So that's pretty much it! I am going to the Royal Oak Farmer's Market again this Sunday. This time I am going with a buddy!! I will post later about what I find there!!

I can't wait to try that silver cleaning trick. I have a lot of tarnished items.
