Telephone Cord Purse

For a whole now, I have been wanting a telephone cord purse. I have always been attracted to the colorful aesthetic of these bags and their fun designs. I found this bag this weekend at the vintage clothing show I went to. I was pretty surprised that it was priced under $20 and it hadn't been snatched up yet. Minus a few stains on the cords, which I am sure I can get out, its in really great shape and was quite the bargain! And other than the dice bracelet I got, is my favorite find from the show.

Does anyone else have a vintage telephone cord purse? I would love to see it! :)

Dice and Sailor Pants

This past weekend was the Bloomfield Hills Jewelry and Vintage Apparel Show. Its a twice yearly show and tends offer the cream of the crop selection of vintage clothing. This is my third year of attendance (don't know how I didn't hear about it sooner) and I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the selection this year. Granted, I didn't get to the show until it had been open for several hours, but I have done that in the past and still walked away with arms full of goodies. I suspect that the lack of good estate sales this past year might have something to do with it. Regardless, I was still able to find three really nice pieces.

One of which is this vintage dice bracelet. I love novelty items and this was too cute to pass up. Plus, if I ever make it to Viva Las Vegas, this bracelet will be a great addition to an outfit. I also bought a cute dress, which I will have to wait for spring to wear, and a purse that I will share with you all tomorrow.

It got pretty chilly here this weekend, so I was finally able to break out some of my fall clothing. I have had these vintage sailor pants for a few years now and never had quite the right top to wear with them. I recently found this vintage wool sweater at the thrift store and I think they match pretty nicely. I also have been living in these shoes. They are comfortable and are oh so cute!

And you might be able to tell in the first photo, I re-dyed my hair -- as it was in great need of a touch up. This time I tried Loreal Fiera Power Red in the shade Ruby Rush. I liked it alright, no major complaints. We'll see how long this one lasts until it begins to fade.

How About An Outfit Post?

I can't believe how long I have been away from blogging! So much has been going on here; grad school is keeping me VERY busy. But, the good news is that the semester ends in exactly 17 days and I CANNOT wait!!!

This photo is back from October when I attended the vintage clothing expo. I bought two dresses and a suit, which I still need to photograph! I also need to take in the suit jacket and replace the zipper and button on the skirt. I got the suit for a major deal though, only $20 (it was a deal considering how high everything was priced at this thing). It's early 50s and is the most lovely grey color. Photos of my finds to follow.

I love this dress... and so did many of the dealers at the expo. :)

Vintage Clothing Expo Update

Yesterday's trip to the vintage clothing expo was a major success!! I found some really great stuff and was able to even cross a few things off my wish list!! I just love when that happens. The weather was a bit more chilly than I had hoped, but I wore this outfit as planned anyways. The dress came from the farmhouse sale and it such a pretty blue color with pink and green plaid print. (I would have left it color, but it was so sunny out that the expression on my face is not quite flattering). The purse is a sneak peak at the stuff I found at the digger sale this weekend. I also set my newly cut hair in pin curls. I finally got a correct middy haircut and I am in love!!

1. A 40s New Look Dress: I spotted this dress when we walked in, but there was no price and the owner of the booth was no where to be found. I decided I would just check and see if it was still there on my way out. It was and I snagged it for a mere $25!! It is cut in such a flattering way and check out that fabulous beading.

2. Vintage Now Old Stock Sunglasses: My mom found these and convinced me that a gal can never have too many sunglasses. They are so cute on and I am really digging the contrast of the white sides with the black fronts.

3. Late 50s Sun Dress: I found this and number five in the same booth. I don't know why we didn't stop into this booth first because the ladies had spectacular prices. Maybe it's a good thing we found it last, otherwise I wouldn't have had any more money left!! I had been looking for a dress that would compliment my tooled leather wedges better than the dress I wore it with last time and this dress fit the bill. Plus I really liked that the entire upper back portion is smocking and the inside features a makeshift bra to accommodate for the low back. I can already tell this will be a summer favorite.

4. A 20s Oriental Raw Silk Jacket: I have been wanting to incorporate more diversity into my vintage clothing. I really love the 30s-50s, but lately I have been feeling the need to branch out a bit. I love the robes from the 20s that have this look to them, however they are not in my budget right now. That's why I was so excited to find this jacket. It has the look of the popular Oriental robes but with a more versatile wearability. Plus its raw silk and only cost $40!!

5. A 50s Fur Trimmed Sweater: This has been a wish list item for a very long time. These come up on eBay quite a bit, but I can never seen to win one. I also saw a lot of these at this expo but all the dealers were asking prices in the $100 range, which I think is kinda steep for a sweater that is pretty common. I almost didn't even look at this one because I figured it would be out of my prince range, but then again all the this booth's prices were extremely reasonable. So, for only $38 bucks it came home with me.

I just want to do a little shout out to the ladies from this booth. They traveled from Wisconsin to sell at this show and said they do quite the business there. I am not surprised. With most of the other booth charging so much for their vintage items (and some of the stuff they were calling vintage was from the 80s) it's no wonder these gals made the sales they did. One of the owners, Suzanne, was telling me that her target consumer is girls like me, who want stylish vintage without having to pay a fortune. She also said she travels the U.S. to find her vintage. They have a website, From Regal to Retro and I recommend visiting them. Suzanne said they don't have a lot up there, but if you are looking for something to send them an email and they will be happy to work with you. They also travel to do shows, so maybe they will be coming to your area.

A Lazy Day Outfit

Today, my mom and I are attending this vintage clothing and jewelry expo and I am soooooo excited!! :) I have been saving my money for weeks now and can't wait to see what the show has to offer. I'll post an update with any finds!

Anyways, I wanted to share this outfit I wore the other day when I was running a few errands. The top is really blousy, I think it might even be a vintage maternity top, but I love it just the same. I didn't want to get lost in the top, so I paired it with a belt and it gave it kinda a peplum effect, which makes me think I could get away with doing this to other vintage maternity tops. I always find them for so cheap and always pass them up because I not at that stage in my life yet. Any thoughts?

Oh... and I also went to this super packed digger sale yesterday and found lots of great stuff. Look for a post on this too! I was so happy yesterday -- this sale was crazy good!

The Real Me

A while back, Miss Cherry Bubbles tagged me to post a picture of the "real me." I was racking my brain, thinking of what kind of a picture would embody the real me. I finally decided on taking a picture with my sweet little doggie, Pumpkin. Ever since I knew what a dog was, I wanted one. After living twenty-one years without a puppy (I am living at home while attending college), my parents finally caved in and got me one. She is the best little doggie in the whole world!! :) In a way, I am sort of glad my parents had me wait because I really do appreciate her whereas I think if I were younger the novelty would have certainly worn off by now.

Other than my love for my little puppy, here are some other things that make up the "real me." I am always late or running late. I have a very hard time getting places on time, but I have been getting better. I spend way too much money and am addicted to online shopping, primarily eBay. Who doesn't love getting packages in the mail?? And, lastly, I am completely obsessed with movies, mostly Classical Hollywood. I pretty much watch a movie a day, whether it is for school or for enjoyment...sometimes both!

Instead of tagging people, I will open this tag up to any of my readers that feel inclined to do a post on the real me.

I also want to put the word out to all my fellow Michiganders that Saturday, March 20th there will be a jewelry and vintage apparel show in Bloomfield Hills at the Birmingham Unitarian Church. It's only $5 to get in and the one day show is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check out the website for more information. I can't wait!!!!!
