Vintage Thanksgiving Menu - A Moderate Price Feast

I found this series of three Thanksgiving menus in a 1952 Woman's Day magazine and I thought it would be fun to share one a week until Thanksgiving.

All of the menus are based around a turkey and gravy, but the sides accommodate your holiday meal budget, from low to high.

This "moderate" menu includes:

-french fruit cup
-mushroom bisque
-celery
-paprika wafers
-green olives
-whole cranberry sauce
-roast turkey
-giblet gravy
-savory stuffing
-holiday sweet potatoes
-creamed onions
-green beans
-lettuce hearts with blue-cheese dressing
-clover-leaf rolls
-butter
-pumpkin chiffon pie
-coffee

In 1952 this cost about $1.35 per person, which would be $11.93 in today's money according to an inflation calculator.

Stay tunned for the "cost cutting" menu next week!

Etsy Shopper Survey

I'm teaming up with Brittany of Va Voom Vintage to bring you a survey about your shopping experience on etsy.  Since I am nearing my one year anniversary of selling vintage clothing full time on etsy, I felt it was time to ask all of you about your experience with the site.

These responses will help me, and other etsy sellers, tailor their practices and give you more of what you want -- and less of what you don't -- when it comes to shopping etsy.

Taking the survey enters you for a chance to win a $25 store credit for Livin' Vintage Shop.  One survey per person will be counted.  Since the survery does not ask for your name, please comment here or on Brittany's blog with the url of your completion page.

The survey is open now until November 18th.  Results and winner of the store credit will be posted November 19th.

Saving Style

Eliza, 1920

This is my Great-Great- Grandma, Eliza Agnes Kenney (1861-1941).  I don't know much about her, other than she is one of my ancestors on my dad's side of the family.  When my aunt passed away two summers ago, I was gifted with a few items that belonged to Eliza, including a serving plate and a vanity table.

My grandpa is really into genealogy and sent me this photo of Eliza from his archives.  It was so nice to be able to see what the woman who owned these family treasures looked like.  I really like her duster coat and how she is looking away from the camera.  I so enjoy seeing photos of my ancestors -- it's so fascinating!

Lately...

Sharing my love for the Dionne Quints.  If you want to learn more about them, I highly recommend the film Million Dollar Babies.  See my Film Fashion Friday post about it HERE.

I've finally decided to really get organized with my blogging and to start trying to plan for the whole month instead of by the week.  So far, I'm loving it!  I'm going to be sharing more on this after the holidays.

Taking Pumpkin to get a trim.  She's always so excited to see me when I come to pick her up.  Best feeling!

All the ladies hanging out together before the photoshoot started.  This is another hint of things to come on this here blog.  I'm getting really excited with where Livin' Vintage and Livin' Vintage Shop is heading in the next few months!!

Saving Style: A New Series on Livin' Vintage

Like many vintage clothing collectors, I have a large collection of vintage photos.  I am helplessly drawn to the ability to peer into the lives of average people of the past.  In an effort to share and digitally catalog my collection, I have decided to start a new series on Livin' Vintage called Saving Style.  Every so often I will share a photo or two from my collection, documenting the fabulous style that the average women of the past had.

This photo above was pulled from an estate sale and I ended up with nearly a whole album from this woman.  Here it looks like they are at a fair or maybe even a Coney Island type place.  I just love the print on her dress and the man on the right's pocket full of pens!
