April Sponsor Salute

Adele Bee Ann Sewing Patterns
Are you feeling the warmer temps by you yet?  It's still pretty cold here in Michigan, but with all things considered, I'll take 50 degree days over the temps we has just a few weeks ago with the Polar Vortex.  It feels like I have been cooped up inside forever, so I really can't wait to break out all those summer dresses.  In the mean time, I've been checking Adele Bee Ann Sewing Patterns to find the perfect pattern to use with this amazing poodle print I picked up at last weekend's show.

Trish Hunter Finds

Isn't Trish just a doll?  I was delighted when she signed on for April!  On Trish's blog you can find outfit posts, all things vintage, and one of my favorite of her features, the Retro Roadshow.  In this regular feature, Trish showcases vintage items from her own collection and that she spots in her travels, educating readers on their value and history.  Recently, she spotlighted the sunbeam mixmaster and French Twiggy mannequin heads, two of my personal favorites!  So stop on by her blog and tell her I sent ya!  ;)

Spring Wardrobe Planning with Adele Bee Ann Patterns

Michigan still hasn't gotten the memo that it's suppose to be spring (we still have SNOW in our forecast!), but that doesn't mean I'm not thinking about warmer temps.

This month, Susan from Adele Bee Ann Patterns joined the Livin' Vintage sponsors and what a perfect time too!  With many of us starting to look into our spring closets and with Lucky Lucille's Sew for Victory sew along, there are so many reasons to be shopping for vintage patterns right now.

Here's three I am really loving:

1950s Simplicity 3384
1940s Vogue 5708

I love a good apron dress and this 50s Simplicity pattern is just adorable!  I really like how full the skirt is compared to my Swirl dresses -- sometimes a girl just needs a big puffy skirt.

Can we just stop for a moment to take in the sleeves and neckline on this 1940s Vogue pattern?  I could see this dress being made up for either day or night wear.

1949 Simplicity 8238

This late 40s Simplicity patterns pretty much sums up what I love about vintage fashion: cute details, ladylike, and matching jackets.  Plus the semi circle skirt and slight peplum on the jacket is a really flatter combination.  And those buttons on the shoulders!!

Meet Vintagers!

Have you guys heard about Vintagers yet?  If not, you need to check it out!  I adore the design of the site -- so cute!!

Vintagers has carved out a corner of the vast interwebs for all vintage lovers alike.  It's a place where you can set up shop to buy and sell vintage items both online and in your area using a geolocation tool.

It's free to join and once you do, you have access to the budding marketplace to both buy and sell online through their website.  Selling seems to work pretty similar to etsy, however there is only a 5% transaction fee and no listing fee.

The "community" section of the website offers much more than just commerce.  Vintagers also offers a place to share your favorite vintage spots in your town, whether it's that great vintage clothing shop down the street from you or the really cool bar that's been around since the 30s you can find these or post them in the "around you" section.

Vintagers is also a great place to make friends and meet new likeminded people.  I unfortunately live in an area were there isn't a huge thriving vintage community so I seek out a lot of that sort of connection through the internet and via this blog.  I am looking forward to what Vintagers has to offer!  What a stellar idea!!

Astor Place Vintage

I've always been a lover of books.  I can remember as a little girl staying up way past my bedtime, secretly reading in my room.  When I got to the age of chapter books, my mom got me started on the American Girl Doll stories and I have been reading historical fiction ever since.

Now that I am out of school, I can once again read for pleasure -- a delightful thing that has been rarely possibly for the last 6-10 years.  At this point in my life, I really enjoy reading anything and everything about old Hollywood, classic movie stars and film, and anything vintage clothing related.  While I still enjoy a good historical fiction novel, there is just something about peering into the fictional lives of vintage clothing store owners that brings a great sense of enjoyment to the act of reading.

Astor Place Vintage, by Stephanie Lehmann, is the story of Amanda, a 30 something vintage clothing store owner in New York City.  The novel opens with her on a buying appointment (which quickly drew me in for so many reasons) where she discovers the journal of a young woman, Olive, who is chasing a department store buyer position.  The novel then alternates between these two narratives, eventually expressing how these two women, while separated by time, are ultimately intertwined.

The entire premiss of the novel revolves around the notion of what one can find hidden amongst old clothing and really what can be found with relics of the past.  Amanda unearths this journal, begins to read it, and the rest of the novel follows by witnessing these two women's lives and how Amanda connects with this journal.  This notion of found objects impacting a person's present is the real charm of Astor Place Vintage.  Within the first few pages of this novel, the reader is indoctrinated into the world of a vintage treasure hunter and Lehmann does an excellent job of crafting this world within the text of her novel.

I highly recommend this book to all vintage lovers, but especially those who deal in and love vintage clothing.  Find out more about the book HERE.

September Sponsor Salute

Jessamity Vintage has been stocking their shop with some really great vintage goodies for fall!  Jess also offers handmade items made with found materials.  This fall I am really digging 60s floral suitcases and tooled leather bags, both of which you can find at Jessamity.  Jess also has some items that would be perfect for Halloween, like this 50s showgirl costume.

Astor Place Vintage is the fifth novel for Stephanie Lehmann and features the blurring of the past of 1900s New York with the present day Manhattan vintage clothing store owner.  Vintage fashion and history enthusiasts can surely get their fix with Astor Place Vintage.  Lehmann shares some of her research for the novel on her blog.  Look for more on the novel next week!

Meet Bunny

Bunny Moreno is the pretty lady behind the blog, Bunny's Victory.  After the birth of her third child, Bunny did a pin-up shoot as a way to reconnect with herself as a woman and quickly fell down the rabbit hole known as vintage living.  Her blog chronicles this journey, sharing how she manages to balance life as a momma to three kiddos with her passion for all things vintage.

"Be victorious!" she says.  Why? "Because I truly believe we can each face our challenges head on, rise above them, grow, and be prosperous."  A great message!

Bunny is also the cofounder of the ezine, Hey Doll! Vintage Magazine, which I have written for in the past.  Catch up on back issues HERE.

Recently, Bunny has started a Doctor Who series on her blog, where she shares outfits inspired by the show and her passion for the show.  I love the cute outfits she creates -- inspiring readers to incorporate their passions into their day lives -- and she might just have convinced me to check out the show!

Sponsor Salute: In Grips We Trust

I don't know about you, but I go through bobby pins like water.  I always seem to loose them and they are always laying around the house.  So when In Grips We Trust sent me a box of their bobby pins, I was super excited!

The box is the perfect size to hold a good amount of booby pins -- no more searching for some when I need them.  You also get to select what color pins you want.  I chose red because I know I will be going back to red eventually and these will come in handy!

I've been carrying the box of pins in my purse and it's the perfect size for that or I could see it looking cute on a vanity.

Gina packages each order so cute too!  They come in a sweet box, prefect for gift giving!  Not only does she ofter these adorable pin up bobby pin boxes, but also pin up note cards.  These cards are blank inside and are printed on a high quality card stock.

I love that pretty much everything is customizable!
