Nasty Jello of the Month: March

Happy St. Patricks Day everyone!! Since this Jello recipe calls for spinach, I felt it was fitting for today, with spinach being green and all. Although, looking back, I probably should have saved last month's for today!

Anyways, this one looks okay, but the stuff that's in it is super yucky, in my opinion. However, this could be because I don't really care for mayonnaise or cottage cheese. Would you ever eat this?

Next month's Nasty Jello Party will be held on April 19th.

What did you all find?

Nasty Jello of the Month: February

"Looking for a fancy dish you can make today -- serve tomorrow," not if I'm the cook! I get that this is easy and makes an interesting presentation (i.e. "fancy" in the copy's words), however, I don't think my party guests or my family would be interested in eating this.

When I was little, my grandma used to mix fruit into the strawberry jello, which was a special treat and super yummy. I just can't understand how this concept spanned into putting this such as cheese and olives into lime jello, as the example above suggests. Maybe it's a generational thing.....

I tried to find what magazine I scanned this from, but I couldn't find it. I am thinking it come from one of my 50s McCalls or Ladies Home Journal. If I come across it, I'll edit it in. And, just in case you are feeling inclined to try such a concoction, the recipe for "Tangy Cheese Aspic" is provided in the ad. The only part that the scanner cut off is the suggested ways to serve this "fancy" dish. What did you find?

Next month's Nasty Jello Party will be held on March 17th. So if you couldn't find something for this month, you have a whole month to find something for March. :)

Nasty Jello of the Month: January

January's recipe comes from McCall's October 1952 edition. In this edition, a series of "Take It Easy" cooking was featured and this recipe for Vegetable Salad Mold was part of the easy luncheon for four segment.

The idea of eating a vegetable jello is quite gross to me. And, even though I love veggies, they shouldn't be mixed with lemon jello. :)

Out With the Old....

...And in with the new! I decided it was time for a little change here at my blog. I have had the same header since I created my blog three years ago and thought it could use some sprucing up.

I also have an announcement to make regarding the "Nasty Jello Recipe of the Month" series. I have decided that the third Thursday of every month will be "Nasty Jello Recipe of the Month" day. That means that for January, we will be posting on the 20th. I have created a button to put on your blog if you are participating and it will link to the posts here on my blog. I am also going to do a mister linky so that everyone can share their findings. This way, we will all have a place to congregate and will be able to find the recipes all in one place to share with everyone else. So gals, you have about a little over a week to find a recipe to share. :)
