Woodward Dream Cruise 2010

Two weekends ago was the Woodward Dream Cruise here in Southeastern Michigan. The cruise is pretty much the only yearly event in my area that has a vintage theme to it and one that I can count on partaking in every year. It's also pretty cool to live in the area that is home to the largest one day classic car show that hails over 40,000 cars each year.

This year it rained during the day, so the beau and I decided to wait and go in the evening when there was less of a chance for rain. While it wasn't rainy, the evening proved to be rather humid and thus, produced my flat hair that appears in the photo above.

I always enjoy going to the cruise because it's the one day a year I don't get weird looks and I actually blend in with the crowd. Plus, it feels like you have been transported back in time, being surrounded by all the classic cars!

My Weekend Uniform

These last few weeks of summer have been keeping me super busy and away from my computer. Since I did not have any classes this summer to take, I have really taken advantage of enjoying a lazy school free summer.

This past weekend was jam packed with lost of estate sale shopping and a trip to Eastern Market, a large farmers market in Detroit. I didn't find anything too spectacular at the estate sales, but the beau did score a really awesome hanging lamp that drips oil. Now we just need to figure out how to make it work..... make the oil start dripping again, that is.

The weekend also gave me a chance to wear my new Swirl, which I got on eBay for the large sum of $5 with shipping included!!! The top is a little faded and there are a few speckles of paint, but it was a great price and is perfect for estate sales and flea markets; for when I want to dress vintage but not have to worry about ruining my vintage clothing. Plus I have having pockets so I don't need to carry a purse around everywhere.

Camping--Vintage Style

[Me and my Beau on the beach. I am wearing a vintage romper/swimsuit]

Two weekends ago, my beau and I went camping on a cute little island off the coast of Charelvoix, Mi. The camping sites were basically just numbered plots, with no electricity or running water, so we were really roughing it! Definitely vintage camping, although I would have loved it to be more like The Long, Long Trailer!

I did get the chance to take one of my vintage rompers/swimsuits for a spin on the beach. For being all heavy cotton it was surprisingly cool and dried rather quickly after a quick swim in the lake.

Overall, we had a great time camping and I survived a very rustic weekend without the modern amenities of the 21st Century!

A Few of My Favorite Finds From Chicago

While in Chicago, I had the chance to do some major vintage shopping. It seemed like there were TONS more little vintage and antique shops there than in my hometown. I also was able to check a few things off my vintage want list. The cookbooks pictured above were FREE at this block sale we attended. I just love old cookbooks and the zany recipes they have. I have also started collecting yellow handled bakelite kitchen utensils. Two of them were purchased at an estate sale and the other at an antique shop.

One of the things on my vintage wish list was little combs that coordinate with some of my vintage compacts. I just love the little peacock one; it has a red rhinestone for its eye!! The other comb and jewelry were all bought at the same little vintage shop that was CRAMED full of vintage goodness!!! The sombrero hat earrings are vintage Mexican Silver and are screw-backs. The pin is bakelite and was a major steal!!

My deal of the trip would definitely have to be this bag of vintage photos for a mere sum of $2. These were found at an antique mall in Michigan City, Indiana on the way home. This antique mall was AMAZING!!!! It had over 140 dealers and is huge!! If you ever get a chance to go, I highly recommend it. Plus, they are open 7 days a week!!

Blogger Meet-Up: Meeting the Thriftaholic

[Outside a historical theatre, where Leilani's grandparents had their first date!]

First off, I should begin this post with an apology for being gone for over two weeks. One of my major goals for this summer was to do some traveling and two weekends ago I went on my camping trip, which was a total blast. More on this later!

This past weekend, my beau and I drove to Chicago to meet up with Leilani from Thriftaholic. Chicago is about a four and a half hour drive from Metro Detroit and it had been about ten years since I had been there. Leilani offered to act as our tour and vintage shopping guide.

Along with some great shopping and eating, we experienced quite a big heat wave. Day one was spent doing some shopping around Ukrainian Village at some cute little vintage clothing stores and eating lots of yummy food. Day two included some estate sales and hitting up some antique shops in the suburbs.

Here we are on day three, posing in our Swirls on some couches at a local thrift store. I found a lot of great stuff, which deserves a post of its own, so look for my finds tomorrow!

The last night in town, Leilani and I got all dressed up and spent the evening sipping some cocktails and took some photos in a vintage photo booth. Check out Leilani's blog for those photos.

Overall, I had such a lovely time in Chicago and want to send a huge thank you out to Leilani, a gem of a gal, for being my personal tour guide and showing me a fantastic time while in town!

Blue 'n Green

Sorry for the lack of frequent posts lately. This summer has really kept me busy! And I am glad it has, since I will be starting classes back up in a few weeks for my Masters degree. It's been nice to jut relax and enjoy the weather and not have to be in doors in a classroom all summer long!!

I wore this last Thursday on a trip to the thrift store. The Salvation Army's in my area do a student discount day, which is Thursday and if you present a student I.D. you get 25% off. Now I try to only thrift on Thursdays, to get even better deals!! Does your Salvation Army do that?
